JS Bach Mass in B Minor
I was smitten by the beauty and nobility of this great work of art when I first heard it, aged nineteen. The Benedictus, with flute obligato, remains my primary desert island choice, and in selecting this particular performance, from Klemperer’s 1967 recording, I have remained faithful to the first version I ever heard. This was a true innamoramento, and my love of this piece has not been diminished by constancy. The opening moment of the kyrie is without parallel.
