A very satisfying puzzle.

Thank goodness for these puzzles. It is so satisfying to be challenged to unlock the recesses of the mind and rediscover there certain terms that are only vaguely familiar, yet somehow known and ready to surface. “Honest broker” is an example of this for me; it isn’t in my active vocabulary, yet is somehow subtly present. On a hot day, it is pleasant to take refuge from the force of the sun with a mug of tea and a few lexical challenges. I hadn’t heard of a “corncob”, a type of pipe, but worked it out and found it a charming discovery, I enjoyed this puzzle far more than yesterday’s. LJ
“Djibouti”. I didn’t get this, or “mild”, nor do I fully understand “editing”, though it was obviously the solution. All in all, a poor puzzle by comparison with most, notwithstanding my own shortcomings.

A satisfying challenge

Smoothly executed, but I was left nauseous by the notion of a “teach in”

A pleasant Sunday’s occupation

Completed swiftly and smoothly

Swan up, persona non grata …

From quite which recess of the mind I recalled “helpmeet” eludes me, but I found it in the end. “Espalier” then fell into place. A pleasant puzzle. “Antitrade”…

“Poplin”

Alias Smith & Jones, with Burl Ives. The holster moment!
Pleasant and straightforward, good for morale on a Monday morning

Perseverance paid off. Tricky.
