Thank goodness for these puzzles. It is so satisfying to be challenged to unlock the recesses of the mind and rediscover there certain terms that are only vaguely familiar, yet somehow known and ready to surface. “Honest broker” is an example of this for me; it isn’t in my active vocabulary, yet is somehow subtly present. On a hot day, it is pleasant to take refuge from the force of the sun with a mug of tea and a few lexical challenges. I hadn’t heard of a “corncob”, a type of pipe, but worked it out and found it a charming discovery, I enjoyed this puzzle far more than yesterday’s. LJ
